In a very tight finish, a young Dragons side held their nerve to restrict Gingins to just 6 runs off the last over of the match and win their first match of the new season by 6 runs. To try to improve the balance of scoring between runs off the bat and extras, we tried a new format where wides only conceded 1 run and any run completed by the batsman counted as 2. In addition the wicket was shortened to 18 yards. After the new rules were explained to everyone, Gingins won the toss and chose to field.

After opener Max H was bowled by a superb delivery from Luca in over 3, Fergus and Max L made the most of the new rules with excellent running and some good hitting to take the Dragons to 50 after 9 overs. After Max & Fergus retired, Gingins struck back dismissing Tom, Ibrahim & George cheaply before Shiv came in and raced to 20. When Shiv retired Ross, Ali & Ray went quickly before last man Shivam was joined by Fergus in over 21 with the score on 100. This pair then scored freely add 37 in the last 4 overs, Shivam ending on 8 and Fergus on 44 including 7 fours.

In reply Gingins got off to a flying start getting to half the required runs off just 10 overs, Daiyyan retiring on 20 and Kian and Aryan both scoring 14. Despite some good bowling from the Ray and Shivam, the match looked like it was heading to Gingins who were 97 for 2 off 17 overs, needing just 41 off the last 8 overs. But some controlled bowling from Fergus, Ross and captain Max L put the pressure on Gingins and wickets started to fall. It all came down to the final over with 12 runs needed and Tom Harper to bowl. Despite the batsman trying everything, Tom held his nerve and 3 wickets fell leaving Gingins 131 for 9.
