2013 Under 11 Léman Cup
Schweiz 147 for 4 beat Suisse 97 for 9 by 50 runs.
The annual Leman Cup matches were played at Cossonay on September 7th. The contest is the Schweiz vs Suisse with teams made up from players from Basel Dragons CC & Zurich Crickets CC playing
against Cossonay CC, Collège du Léman CC, Gingins CC & Geneva Region Youth CC. This year the Under 11 team had 7 players from the Dragons and 4 from Zurich Crickets and the contestwas played
over 25 overs.
Captain James West having won the toss opened the batting with left hander Daiyyan and faced some fast straight bowling from Ismael Zaidi. Daiyyan was caught and bowled off Wilf which brought in Aryan who took the score to 52 at the end of the 10th over when James retired on 17. Aryan was out in the next over when Tom and Ethan came in who, with some sensible batting and tremendous running between the wickets, took the score to 85 at the end of over 16 both of them scoring 8. Luca and Joe kept the runs ticking over both retiring on 3 with the innings finally closing on 147. This looked like a good score with a slow outfield and helped by a large number of extras from the less experienced Suisse team.
In reply, Schweiz were very good in the field stopping many potential singles and putting pressure on the Suisse batsman to take risks to score runs. The bowling was a mixture
of too many wides interspersed with very good balls. This was supported with good catching from Max & Ethan who held difficult chances. James Atkinson and Shreyas both took
two wickets each and Marc bowled very well and was unlucky to only pick up one wicket. Tom, Aryan & James W were also wicket takers. In the end Schweiz were comfortable winners through a very
good team performance. The players from both teams seemed to thoroughly enjoy the event and it was a great way to start the 2013/14 season for the Under 11’s in Switzerland.
