U13 Friendly Matches in Basel and Cossonay
On Saturday 8 June and Saturday 15 June, U13 cricketers from Basel Dragons JCC, Cossonay CC, Gingins CC and Zurich Crickets CC got together in Cossonay then Basel for two friendly games of combined teams. The atmosphere was more relaxed than the intense competition of Zuoz, and the weather was warm!
On the first day, 319 runs were scored, with just 9 separating the sides after 35 overs. On the second - on the astroturf hockey pitch at Rankhof in Basel (as flat and fast as the outfield at Lords), hosts Basel Dragons took on a combined team of visitors. The Visitors posted what seemed a very high 245 in 30 overs, and got off to a good start when bowling. But Basel Dragons do not give up lightly, and fought back to end just 19 runs short - just in touch into the last 4 balls. A total 471 runs scored, 790 on the two days combined!
In the two days combined, Rohan Jain (Gingins) scored a total of 94 runs without losing his wicket, Jack Morris (ZCCC) (32 not out in one innings), Will Clayton (BDJCC) (36 not out in one innings), Luke Specogna (ZCCC U11 28), and John Cumberland (GCC) and Tom Bews (CCC) retired on 25 not out in one innings. Sohail Zulfiqar (ZCCC) hit the ball harder than anyone. With the ball, Oli Millar (ZCCC) took 6 wickets for 28 runs in 9 overs and Archer Martin (GCC U11 playing at U13 for the first time) took 5 for 27 in 7.
Both days were very entertaining and saw lots of good cricket. Thanks very much to Cossonay and Basel Dragons for hosting us, and for excellent scones and lunch!
Thanks also to Nigel Atkinson for taking lots of super photographs during the Basel game. Those of the ZCCC players give a feel for the day.
The last of the three planned U13 days will take place in Cossonay on 29 June. Volunteers welcome!
